Teaching Overview

Our candidate profile

We want candidates who have:

  • a bachelor’s degree or higher;
  • an ESL/teaching qualification;
  • a positive attitude;
  • no criminal record;

Employment package

The teaching contract is between the candidate and the hiring school or college. A typical package would usually include the following:

  • monthly salary;
  • paid public and school holidays;
  • return international flights (economy class);
  • free accommodation or rental allowance;
  • airport pick-up and orientation arranged by the hiring school;
  • medical insurance, transport allowance for work, bonuses and travel allowance are subject to the hiring school.

Salary negotiation is largely dependent on relevant work experience.  The Chinese school year runs from September to January, and then March to June. The Christmas break is brief as it is not a traditional Chinese public holiday. Major public holidays usually last seven days at a time, and the winter holiday including Chinese New Year lasts about a month.

The Chinese people are generally very hospitable. Chinese families are willing to invest in their children's education. Schools therefore value foreign teachers who can teach to a high standard.

Prospect China support

In addition to the school's employment package, we can provide the following optional support:

  • visa application in the UK and flights;
  • Chinese cultural briefing and introduction to Mandarin upon arrival in Shanghai;
  • emergency contact in Shanghai during the contract period;
