Teaching Locations in China

Teaching in China is an unforgettable experience. It gives your CV an edge to compete and succeed in today’s global marketplace. You can travel the country that is now the second largest economy in the world with over 5000 years of history. You can learn Mandarin, the world’s most spoken language. You will also meet fascinating people and develop an international network of professional contacts and friends.

Shanghai – ‘East joins West’

Shanghai is the best place to start if you have never been to China. It is a modern and easy place to live for westerners visiting China for the first time. The cost of living is much lower than the UK. For example, a 350ml can of Coca-Cola only costs RMB 2.50 (about GBP 25p). You will see all the major western brands here, as well as having the opportunity to experience the ‘Chinese way’. There are many different nationalities living, working and studying in Shanghai. You will soon develop friendships and enjoy your life in this ‘Pearl of the Orient’ city.

Ningbo – ‘East meets West’

Ningbo is a small seaport city in Zhejiang province on the east coast of China. It is where the legendary Chinese love story ‘Butterfly’ (the Chinese ‘Romeo and Juliet’) originated. Here you will appreciate the diverse culture of China; with some western flavour that makes living and working easy. The cost of living in Ningbo is lower than in the big cities such as Shanghai and Beijing. On the weekend, you can take a stroll to enjoy the temples, pagodas and lakes. However, if you miss the buzz of a big city and western commodities, Shanghai is only a short trip away.

Anhui province

Located in eastern China, Anhui province is quite diverse topographically. You can experience some of the most fantastic scenery in China, including the famous Mount Huangshan and Mount Tianzhu. The cost of living is much cheaper than in the big cities such as Shanghai and Beijing.

Tongling county is located in southern Anhui province, about five hours by car from Shanghai. Its landscape is mostly mountainous with two semi-natural reserves for the last remaining Yangtze freshwater dolphins.

Gansu province

Located in north-west China, Gansu province is an ideal base for adventures into the wild west of China. With a long history and fascinating culture, Gansu is well endowed with cultural relics and natural scenery.

Qingyang in eastern Guansu province has an extremely long history, and folk culture is still very much a part of day-to-day life here. Multiple ravines and undulating hills are typical of Qingyang, where there is more opportunity to appreciate nature as the industrial pollution is less of an issue than elsewhere in China. There are no western fast-food chains, but many noodle restaurants! Teaching in Qingyang can be very rewarding.
