Textbook – RMB 100 per person (about GBP 10)
Elective course – RMB 250 per person per course (about GBP 25). Each course runs for 4 weeks.
Accommodation
- RMB 120 per day (about GBP 12); single room including en-suite bathroom, air-conditioner, TV, telephone internet access and shared kitchen. Note that utility costs are not included.
- RMB 130 day (about GBP 13); single room with shared bathroom, air-conditioner, TV, telephone, microwave oven, refrigerator and internet access. Note that utility costs are not included.
Programme description
This programme is designed to help non-Chinese speakers to communicate in Mandarin Chinese in a day-to-day context. The training focuses on listening and speaking skills, with essential grammar and vocabulary needed for everyday living in China.
Intensive spoken Chinese courses are offered to suit different levels (A to F).
Business Chinese is only offered at intermediate (HSK3 or higher) and advanced level (HSK 6 or higher).

Optional visa application assistance
We can help you to apply for a Chinese visa in the UK. You will need to post your passport (valid for at least six months before your departure with one blank page), a completed Chinese visa application form (by hand or typed out), and a passport-sized photo to our visa and travel partner in the UK. You will settle the visa charges directly with our partner.

Optional accommodation assistance
Jiao Tong University does not guarantee on-campus accommodation for non-degree students. Our Shanghai office can help you find suitable accommodation prior to your arrival in Shanghai. The choices on accommodation are apartment rental, other universities' guest houses or home-stay.
